What a Rush!

Phew! It feels like it took a whole week to recover from last weekend’s rush! We designed, delivered, or set up 4 different lovely weddings, custom made each and every special vase for the mommas out there, and even got an unexpected run on prom corsages and bouts! We really have a great crew at Blossoms and when we get together in one place there is nothing but laughs, dance music, and good vibes- even if we’re exhausted! We wish we had more to show you from our jam-packed weekend, but we only managed to snap a few photos of whichever arrangement was closest to the door in our cooler- good grief was it ever full.

Someone very thoughtful picked out this beautiful keepsake vase for their mom,

and we filled it with a fragrant mix of hyacinth, lilac, and buttery yellow stock.

We loved this sweet, low arrangement with a wild, springy mix!

And one lucky mama got this gorgeous purple design!

Why is it so dark in our shop, you might ask? Because we were still working at 10pm! We did take a moment to relax before heading out with a small glass of wine and some nachos & guacamole from our favorite neighborhood restaurant. Then we came back in at 8 the next morning to begin deliveries! Then we slept for 2 days straight! We couldn’t have this much fun without our fantastic customers and clients- you guys are the best and we love you. Thank you for trusting us with your Mother’s Day flowers and we look forward to making something new and exciting for you next year!

Happy Mother’s Day from Weaverville Primary School & Blossoms!

Last Tuesday, Blossoms owners Audrey and Alan and their oldest son Ethan volunteered at little brother Gabe’s kindergarten class at Weaverville Primary School. They gave a lesson on the parts of a flower and then a lesson on flower arranging. The kids all got to make their own arrangements for the special mother figure in their lives. The kindergarteners all wrote a card to their recipient and had tons of fun with the whole activity. Check out these sweet pictures!

Alan explains the parts of this daisy

This looks like so much fun!

Here’s what young Gabe learned! So stinkin’ cute!

Here Comes Mother’s Day!

Mother’s Day is our biggest day of the year! It’s not hard to put in the extra effort- we are moms and we love our moms, so we know how important it is to make sure she feels special! Here are a few ideas from our shop in Biltmore Park that might push your celebration from pretty to perfect:

These diffusers are a long lasting and safe alternative to candles- plus they look so elegant!

Of course you can’t beat the romance of candle-light. These smell SO yummy!

Is the mom in your life a gardener? These seed packets would be so cute tied to an arrangement!

Your cut-flower arrangement might not last forever, but this from-seed ginkgo tree will! This is a great family activity, too.

We got the prettiest visitor last week! Who could blame him for trying to get to those blooms?

As always, our designers are super happy to hear from you and it’s definitely not too late to give us a call for a special order: 650-6464

The News

Blossoms has tons of news and we’re just too excited to share it all with you!

First and funnest- many of our crew ran in the Falafel 5k, a race benefitting the Asheville Jewish Community Center and Camp Ruach. As one of our good sports (if not most athletic sports) said before the run “I had a hard time being convinced to run for falafel, but when they mentioned Celebration Israel was going on right afterward, I decided I could run to falafel!” We may not have had the fastest times, but we ALWAYS have the most fun.

From Left to Right: Cortney Jackson with daughters Caroline & Charlot Anne, Audrey Kirsch with son Gabe, Kiimia Shariti, Adrienne Kort with daughter Chloe, Annette Lewis, Alan Kirsch with son Ethan, Brooke Dickson (not shown), Ginger Frank with children Alex & Hannah (not shown), Ransom Jackson (not pictured)

Grab some more information about the JCC here, and see some more hilarious 5K pictures from the Asheville Citizen-Times here.

Next on the good news list is this super-gorgeous feature on RusticWeddingChic.com:

We love this blog and we love these photos and we love Almond Leaf Studios for submitting them!

And lastly:

Need I say more? Thanks so much for reading! We love you (and your mom!)

Kate & Peter

Goodness gracious get ready for a wedding that’ll have your eyes watering! Kate and Peter are the sweetest, coolest couple! They organized and ran in a 5k called the “Tie the Knot Trot” the morning of their hitching, getting the whole family and community involved in what was by all accounts a magical day. Yeah Yeah Creative filmed the whole thing and shared this unbelievably beautiful and moving clip. Get happy:

The wedding colors were bright green, vivid blue, and soft white, so we used tons of hydrangea, freesia, and hypericum berries. Audrey, our designer in charge, described Kate’s bouquet as “HUGO-GUGO” which we’re pretty sure means huge/gorgeous x 1,000,000. It’s absolutely one of the best!

So fun and sunny!

We wanted to give this special couple something magical to stand beneath during their vows, so we assembled and hung these orbs of blooms through their lovely tent.

The doors from the bridal house were decorated with these baskets, a perfect late summer touch for this September event.

The reception had a bit of a rustic touch with these candle lanterns, mercury-glass votives, and friendly dahlias in mixed vases.

And an incredible dress to match that smile! Love the casual khakis for the guys, too! You guys are fabulous- thanks so much for working with us!

Lovely luscious photos by Jeremy Russell Photography- thanks for sharing with us, Jeremy!

The ceremony and reception took place at the Old Edwards Inn.

Fan.Tastic.Video. by  Yeah Yeah Creative, of course.

Big props to Shay and her crew at Shay Brown Events!

Prom Exploded On Our Store!

The past two weekends we’ve been in corsage/boutonniere manufacturing mode. It tends to be a manic workday, as the fine details and delicate construction needed to make a truly impressive wrist corsage take tons of time, energy, creativity, and sometimes- a sense of humor! We have a fun, collaborative atmosphere at the Blossoms shop and while we made a great big mess of ribbon bits, wire, stems, and glue we laughed about our own prom experiences and danced to the songs we grooved to back in OUR day!

Everyone knows it takes a jar full of peppermint patties to keep up that blood sugar

A gorgeous green cymbidium creation from Amanda!

We got a little creative with the floral paint to get some extra bling

PROM EXPLODED ON OUR TABLE

Audrey making the final touches.

No photos please!!

There’s your behind the scenes look into our prom-tastic weekend, here are some examples of our creations:

The "ring'sage:" a corsage for your finger!

For the girls who like the bling: we like to call this type "the DancyPants"

Spriggy, springy, and super cute- these have a natural, wildflower look.

Is your date not a glitter girl? We can go earthy and elegant, too! We are SO in love with the feathers mixed into the orchid corsage on the left.

Yes, boys, we make your bouts, too! We loved this one for the boy who's ok with his masculinity!

Phew. What a whirlwind. You can really do some damage to a flower shop with 60 prom pickups. We worked so hard to make sure each couple’s flowers were unique. We know our pieces aren’t the most important part of prom, but we hope we at least gave you something special to remember!

Ah. All done.

Have fun tonight, guys and gals! Be safe!

DIY Lighting Ideas

Hi there, friends! Last week we showed off some of our favorite hanging treatments from events past. We are always on the lookout for new ways to make our future events special and different- we never like to do the same thing twice! We spend a lot of time looking for inspiration and this week we’d like to share some DIY hanging treatments that you can do at home:

Mason Jar Lights via Design*Sponge

Click on the pictures to see the tutorials on their original sites. Some of these are deceptively complicated but totally worth the effort. We can’t wait to try some of these- especially that ice lantern! Can’t you picture those lining the walkway to a rustic winter reception?

Don’t Forget to Look UP!

Blossoms is good for all of your event design and decor needs- not just the fantastic flowers. We like to consider your event from all angles- petals on the aisle, arrangements on the table, wreaths on the doors, and our favorite technique for total transformation- hanging elements from the ceiling! We’re always looking for new and exciting treatments for our extra-special clients. Here are just a few of our favorites:

We LOVE the flexibility of paper lanterns! You can go for light and whimsical with colorful clusters or  modern and elegant with monochromatic rows.

Candles are a romantic touch for an evening affair:

And of course, we make flower chandeliers that will make all your guests think they’re at Cinderella’s ball:

Come back next week for a few ideas you can make yourself!

Behind the Scenes with Jazz for Justice

Last week we were excited to donate flowers and decor to Pisgah Legal Service’s Jazz for Justice event. The night was a huge success and we were so proud of our involvement. If you couldn’t make it, here are a few shots from the set up- it was so pretty!

Each of the 30 tables had a slightly different arrangement using candles, mercury glass, lace, and hydrangea. Pisgah Legal sent over a volunteer who helped arrange the hydrangea- thanks Margot, you did a great job!

And in the lobby we installed this stylish scene with mercury glass, hydrangea, handmade paper and wire mesh flowers, lace, and lots of candles. Hanging above it is an antique screen door on which we installed all of those sweet succulents and moss.

The food was delicious, the presenters were moving (to say the least- not a dry eye in the house) and the music fabulous. We hope to see you next year!

Springing up in the Shop

Who’s ready for spring!? Yeah, I know it’s been a warm winter, but at least now instead of missing snow we’re seeing forsythia and bradford pear blossoms! Our shop in Biltmore Park is ready for the new season- check out what’s new!

We always have the cutest/coolest/sweetest/funniest cards in stock from our sister-store the Baggie Goose. If you ever need something with a little more “oomf” than our customary red tags, browse around our collection for the perfect sentiment.

We also have a brand new collection of potted plants- perfect for deliveries. We have a few blooming varieties that are suitable for planting in your garden as well as these adorable herbs in specialty pots. Basil is the gift that keeps on giving, don’t you think?

And of course, our shop has the most unique and best quality cut flowers you’ll find anywhere. Can you believe these ranunculus that our designers, Carly and Sarah, have been working with? Beautiful!

We also want to extend a big huge THANK YOU to all of our AWESOME clients who called in orders the last two days during our fundraiser for the Animal Compassion Network- we, the ACN, and all those pups, kitties, and animals in need of all kinds here in Western North Carolina are so grateful! You guys are the best!
